The Gruber Oven
Construction of a pizza oven and 3 rammed earth workshops
Located on the slopes of the Obersalzberg mountain range, the Gruber-Oven, has been built using only local natural materials: the Lehm has been directly dug on the building site, the gravel and the sand has been sourced from a quarry located within a few kilometers away.
The small rammed earth construction has been realized trough 3 consecutive workshops, after an extensive initial testing phase. Since the raw material was sourced locally it was necessary to find out whether it was suitable for construction (if it was classified as “Baulehm”), hence in which amount the different additives (sand, gravel) could have been added in order to create a solid and durable mix.
